Birth is a unique moment. The first minutes, the first looks, the first contact between a baby and its parents are moments of great intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A calm voice. Soft light. A gentle touch. The reassuring presence of a midwife. The baby placed against its mother. A partner who is there, helping and supporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gentleness at the heart of physiological birth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A physiological birth is one that happens spontaneously, when pregnancy and labour progress normally and do not require any particular medical intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporting physiology does not simply mean \u201cdoing nothing<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the contrary, it means being present, observing, listening, supporting and knowing when to step in if it becomes necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The midwife is with the woman throughout labour, monitors how things are progressing and keeps a close eye on the wellbeing of mother and baby. She can also suggest different ways to ease discomfort: movement, changing position, breathing, massage, warm water or using the birth pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
